About this book

The rapid evolution of pharmaceutical sciences has transformed the way diseases are understood, diagnosed, and treated. Traditional drug delivery approaches, while foundational, often face limitations such as poor bioavailability, lack of target specificity, frequent dosing requirements, and undesirable systemic side effects. In response to these challenges, Novel Drug Delivery Systems (NDDS) have emerged as a pivotal advancement, offering innovative strategies to improve therapeutic efficacy, patient compliance, and safety. Parallel to these developments, the concept of precision medicine has gained global prominence by emphasizing individualized treatment based on genetic, molecular, environmental, and lifestyle factors. This book, “NDDS and Precision Medicine – Theory”, is conceived to provide a comprehensive and systematic theoretical understanding of how advanced drug delivery technologies integrate with the principles of personalized healthcare. The text bridges fundamental pharmaceutical concepts with modern innovations such as targeted delivery systems, stimuli-responsive carriers, nanotechnology-based platforms, antibody–drug conjugates, and long-acting formulations, all of which play a critical role in precision therapeutics. The content is structured to serve the needs of undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, academicians, and professionals in pharmaceutical sciences, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, and related disciplines. Emphasis has been placed on conceptual clarity, logical progression of topics, and alignment with contemporary academic curricula. Each chapter discusses theoretical foundations, design principles, mechanisms of action, and clinical relevance, enabling readers to appreciate both the scientific rationale and translational potential of NDDS in precision medicine. By presenting NDDS not merely as delivery tools but as enablers of patient-specific therapy, this book aims to cultivate a deeper understanding of personalized treatment strategies. It is hoped that this work will stimulate critical thinking, support academic learning, and inspire further research in the rapidly advancing domain of precision-driven drug delivery systems.
