ABSTRACT:
Innovative oral drug delivery technologies are transforming the landscape of pharmaceutical therapeutics by addressing limitations of conventional oral formulations. These advancements aim to enhance bioavailability, control drug release, and improve patient adherence. Emerging strategies include the use of nanocarriers, mucoadhesive systems, gastroretentive platforms, and stimuli-responsive formulations that overcome physiological barriers such as enzymatic degradation and first-pass metabolism. Technologies like 3D printing, microencapsulation, and lipid-based carriers further enable precision dosing and targeted delivery. This review highlights the principles, mechanisms, and clinical relevance of these novel approaches, underscoring their potential to revolutionize oral pharmacotherapy and expand the scope of treatable conditions via the oral route.
